- Cosmopolitan #FashFest with River Island...
I know right, I bet that got your attention. Red carpet? Me? There are many reasons why I love blogging, one being you just don't know what will happen next. All it takes is that one email to land in your inbox and the next minute, you're faced with an amazing opportunity and off to a star-studded event which causes a years worth (or more in my case) of excitement. Which is exactly what I experienced when the lovely India invited me along to Cosmopolitan's Fash Fest 2015* with the River Island team. I mean what even, crazy right?! And to make it even better I was able to bring a plus one, so of course I chose blogging buddy Carolin. Before I go into details of the event, I thought I'd show you a few snaps of my outfit for the night...
I wanted to glam up for the occasion without going too overboard. Therefore, I stuck to a monochrome theme and neutral makeup. I decided to mix things up a bit by wearing white on my bottom half, with black on top.
I find this cropped bardot top such a great essential to have, as it goes wonderfully with high-waisted items and the off shoulder style instantly adds femininity. I then headed to the website destination I've been loving recently, boohoo, for the A-line midi skirt. It was such a bargain at just £10 and is the perfect fit. It comes with an underlayer to avoid any awkward knicker flashing moments, and I love the added texture the burn out stripes provide. And finally, I finished off my outfit with my Carly KG's from bargain site Shoeaholics which you're probably sick of seeing in my outfit posts by now, but I seriously can't get enough of them.
It was then time to head to the venue and let me tell you, the entire evening was so surreal...
When inside the venue, we were told to re-enter via the VIP entrance. And it didn't stop there. We were lead to an exclusive mezzanine area where we were constantly fed bubbly along with a-mazing steak, chicken skewers and the tastiest smore lollipops, which I classed as the next level up from maltesers. Big claim guys, big claim. Seriously though, I was amongst the likes of Abbey Clancy, Michelle Keegan, the Pixiwoo sisters, Lucy Watson, Jameela Jamil - I felt like the queen. Lol, joking (but not really).
The first few hours were spent gobbling food, meeting the other two blogger babes who were also invited along, Paige & Ella, and perusing the beauty brands present. It was then time to be seated before the catwalk began. As you can see, plenty of drinks were provided (and constantly topped up), plus there were extra celebrations on the River Island table as it was India's birthday - woop!
The show was presented by the bubbly Laura Whitmore, who wore the most stunning leather LBD I've ever laid eyes on. She totally rocked it! Conor Maynard got everyone in the party mood by performing a few tracks, including Craig David covers. In all honesty, I'm so behind when it comes to present chart music and typical pop isn't my cup of tea. But he was so good. For 22, he has such charisma and is ridiculously talented - hats off to him.
Next came the catwalk show, which I was so excited for. I love the idea of a catwalk only featuring high-street brands and this one certainly didn't disappoint. River Island, Boohoo, Asos, H&M, New Look, Next, and more, all took part and it really did highlight just how many affordable gems there are on the high-street.
The models were honestly so professional and it was great to see males included too. I think I want pretty much every piece showcased. It was refreshing to watch a catwalk that didn't just have the aim of 'art', but actually featuring stylish pieces which are wearable and practical at the same time. As well as your typical Autumn/Winter blanket capes, fur gliets, sequins and aztec prints some other trends caught my eye. Namely culottes, which seem to have continued into AW15 and are something I really want to find the perfect pair of, plus a trend typically associated with Spring: Pastels.
After the most amazing catwalk show I've ever witnessed, the famous Krystal Roxx (SUPERFOXX) took to the decks. She has to be the best DJ I've ever seen live; she was so full of energy and enthusiasm. After a little boogie on the dancefloor, it was time to head home with goody bags from the event itself (including a divine Ted Baker soap and REN skincare set), plus one from River Island. I honestly can't thank them enough for inviting me along to such a wonderful evening!
*BRB* ... I still need to pinch myself.
