- August Degustabox...

Guess who's back, back again...

I had a wonderful break in Wales and feel super refreshed after a break from the Internet. There's a lot of photos to sift through so I'll post a photo diary in the next few days, so for the time being I'll continue where I left off.

The day before I left, the August Degustabox* arrived. After being largely disappointed with the July version I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm happy to say Degustabox have certainly redeemed themselves! Apparently there was some kafuffle with the previous box (which I luckily escaped), so the team have included bonus items for everyone this month as an apology. Win.

august degustabox review 2015

There's often a theme to each box and after noticing the cute illustrations on the handout, along with the numerous snack items, I spotted the back to school/work theme, which I think is a fab idea and really works with this service. In case you're unaware, Degustabox is a monthly service full of food & drink goodies. At just £12.99 (inc. delivery), it's a great way to explore different products you might otherwise bypass. There's usually 9-14 surprise items, most of which are new to the market.

As always, Degustabox have kindly provided me with a discount code to share with you: simply type 'BI49Q' when registering to get £3.00 off!

Let's dig in...

Walkers, RRP: £2.00 (each)

First of all are these mini packs of shortbread. Walkers is a brand which takes me back to my childhood, as my grandparents used to always have a tin in their cupboard. Shortbread is so simple yet super yummy, and Walkers really is the king when it comes to this baked goodness. I had no idea they did so many different flavours; these mini packs make a perfect snack.

Ryvita, RRP: £2.88 (each)

I've loved Ryvita for years now and I'm constantly impressed by the new flavours they release. They're such a great alternative to your typical sandwiches and the different toppings you can create are endless. As you can see, I received the Cracked Black Pepper and Sesame flavours which are both delicious. How could I not go for a cream cheese & salmon combo?!

Fru Snax, RRP: £1.25

One of the bonus items mentioned above is this pack of Fru Snax, which was included in the previous box. I wasn't overly impressed with the strawberry or fig flavours, but this peach flavour was an improvement. I think they're a good idea, but still think they're expensive for what they are and don't find them filling at all.

Little Miracles, RRP: £1.50
Life Tonics, RRP: £1.49
Williamson Tea, RRP: £4.00
Scheckters Organic Energy drink, RRP: £1.35

There was a fab selection of drinks in this month's box, thanks to the additional Little Miracles and Scheckters Organic Energy bonus items. I'm a huge fan of Little Miracles, they're super tasty and refreshing. As for the energy drink, it's more appealing over typical energy drink brands as the ingredients are 100% natural. If you're after a boost, I'd recommend it.

The other two drinks belonging in the August box are a bottle of Life Tonics and a box of Williamson Tea. I received the coconut & mint flavour of Life Tonics, which I was slightly disappointed in as I'm not a fan of mint and the other flavours sound incredible (Dalandan Orange and Elderberry & Juniper), but alas. I'll pass it onto Rob and see what he thinks. On the other hand, ginger is one of my favourite flavours, so the Ginger Grove tea is perfect. I find ginger really settles my stomach (especially during that dreaded time, right ladies?) and feels really revitalising, plus the amount of flavour in this is just right.

Bahlsen PiCk UP! RRP: £1.69 (5 pack)
Bahlsen Choco Leibniz White, RRP: £1.79

Mmmm, my love for Bahlsen began when their products were included in boxes last year, so receiving them again has certainly rekindled my love for them. High five to Degustabox for helping me discover this brand. These are really affordable and seriously yummy snacks.

The biscuit bars are so moreish and are the perfect little treat. I love how the centre is a slab of solid chocolate rather than the usual chocolate cream you tend to find in bars like this. The other biscuits are equally as amazing. I've tried other flavours before (the caramel ones are E V E R Y T H I N G) and these white chocolate ones have taken things to a whole new level: yum!

DB's Discoveries - Delicious Alchemy Oaty Cookie Mix, RRP: £1.99

I was really excited when I received this bag of cookie mix as, despite not being coeliac, it's always great to see the market widen and provide gluten free options. However, when it comes to the kitchen, I'm not the most skilled. So yep, you guessed it, I failed in the simplest of tasks. All you have to do is add melted butter (or a dairy free alternative), but silly me made the mixture too wet. Oaty, tasty mound, anyone?

Barilla Penne Rigate, RRP: £1.50
Barilla Arrabbiata, RRP: £2.00

The August box does lack cooking ingredients, but I guess that's to do with the theme. However, I appreciate their efforts at including some with this pasta and sauce, which you could take in cold for lunchtime. Barilla is apparently Italy's No.1 as they specialise in carefully selecting durum wheat and use authentic Italian tomatoes.

Dr. Oetker Mug Cakes, RRP: £2.37 (each)

Yep, you read/saw right: MUG CAKES! *happy dance*! These are seriously such a great idea, and even better that baking top dogs Dr.Oetker have released a range. All you have to do is add milk, microwave for just over a minute et voila! #foodporn

So there we have the latest Degustabox. Hopefully you can see how Degustabox have brought it back and have a solid place in my good books. There's a lot of sweet treats included, which I don't mind as I'm all about a balance. There's the perfect mix of snacks and drinks, and I'm pleased they didn't totally miss out cooking ingredients. I'm currently sat here happily munching my way through some Ryvitas with various toppings and feeling like I'm having a banquet (besides the fact I'm alone...).

Don't forget to check Degustabox out and use the discount code above when subscribing!
