- July Degustabox...

Another month, another Degustabox*! If you haven't seen my previous posts about this subscription box, Degustabox is a monthly service full of food & drink goodies. At just £12.99 (inc. delivery), it's a great way to explore different products you might otherwise bypass. There's usually 9-14 surprise items, most of which are new to the market.

When subscribing, you have the choice whether you'd like to receive an alcohol or non-alcohol box, and this month I received the alcohol version to review. Unlike other months, there's no obvious theme with the July box. Although with the recent miserable weather (a month's worth of rain in two days, say whaaaat?!), that may be a good thing - good job they released their 'picnic' box for June!

As always, Degustabox have kindly provided me with a discount code to share with you: simply type 'BI49Q' when registering to get £3.00 off! As you may know, I loved the previous picnic box, so how did July's box compare?

Weetabix On the Go, RRP: £1.49 (each)

Yep, you read that right. Weetabix have released a breakfast milkshake, aiming to be enough to keep you going in the mornings. And nope, there's no crunchy bits of weetabix involved like I initially thought (just me?). These are super yummy and taste just as rich as you're typically milkshade, but are a lot better for you in comparison.

DB's Discoveries - Little Miracles, RRP: £1.50 (each)

Degustabox have started a new initiative: DB's Discoveries. This is to give a brand/product more focus, and this month's is Little Miracles. These organic tea, juice & ginseng drinks are a tasty concoction - really light & refreshing. They were included back in the September box and I've definitely rekindled my love for them.

Newton's Appl Fizzics, RRP: £1.20

This drink is a non-alcoholic blend of sparkling water and apple juice. I did wonder at first why they've bothered to bottle it like a beer/cider, but then thought it's a good idea for those who don't drink. I'm guessing it can get pretty annoying for non-drinkers to sit there with some squash and have people constantly asking why they don't drink (amirite?).

Lambrini, RRP: £3.29

Lol Lambrini. This definitely made me throwback to the days where I began drinking and my drink consumption consisted of this and the likes of WKD and VK (so classy). It seems they've branched out and released a new strawberry flavour. Admittedly, I found this a bit too sweet and artificial tasting, and this is from me who has a majorly sweet tooth, but I think it's a good idea for them to expand.

Fru Snax, RRP: £1.25 (each)

These Fru Snax are an interesting idea. They're made by freezing fruit and yoghurt pieces, which evaporates the water and forms a tasty snack. Whilst I did like the taste of these, I have to say more ended up stuck in my teeth than happily sat in my belly.

Taking The Pea, RRP: £1.50

The name of this brand made me giggle and immediately shows that they're a fun, light-hearted brand. I snacked a lot on crispy peas like this when I went travelling in China, so I was really pleased to see these. There's definitely a gap for snacks like this here in the UK, and this Smoked Ham flavour was really unique and yummy!

Say Yes To No, RRP: £1.49

Probably the tastiest item in this month's box, are these sour cream & onion toasted bread chips. I demolished these in one sitting, although that's not as bad as it may seem as the larger bag was only filled half-way. I find it so annoying and deceiving when brands do this, but I'll forgive them for how moreish and amazing these tasted.

Tasty Little Numbers, RRP: £3.49 (each)

So the grass background has changed in my photos because I was a wolly and deleted the original photos for this product, and the next, before uploaded them to my laptop. Oops. There was actually two of these Tasty Little Numbers meals included, the other one was a chilli con carne. These meals only contains 100-200 calories and are quick & easy, although I do have to admit I'm personally not bothered about calorie numbers and not typically a fan of ready meals. Personal preference with these I guess.

Vit Vibe Jelly Drink, RRP: unknown

I'll cut to the chase and, sorry to end on a low, but I found this jelly drink rank. Maybe it's aimed more towards kids who find water boring? I don't know, but it was basically sloshy blackcurrant flavoured liquid with random chunks of jelly in. Gag.

Overall, I do feel like I've been quite critical of the contents of the July box. I was a little disappointed that the ratio of food:drink items was a little unbalanced and that there was a lack of cooking ingredients, as the boxes typically include some amazing ones. That being said, the crispy peas and toasted bread crisps were divine, so all is not lost! So, despite not loving it as much as the previous June Picnic version, I still made some good discoveries and still enjoyed trying products I otherwise wouldn't have.

What do you think of the July Degustabox*? Don't forget the discount code above!

  1. Personally, I don't think I would outright purchase the Tasty Little Numbers as I have seen them in the 99p store. However to get them in this box would be different.

  4. Hmm...I've seen a few of this boxes reviewed over the past few months and I agree that this month's box really pales in comparison. If this is the first box that I've seen, I would be turned off from subscribing.

  9. I've wanted to give the Weetabix shakes a go, they seem like a great alternative to breakfast bars. Although I agree, a better range in the box would have made it more interesting :)
