- Korean Gradient Lips Tutorial...

As promised in my latest post with BonjourHK, I've decided to do a tutorial on 'Korean Gradient Lips'. This is a huge beauty trend in the Korean entertainment industry and has been very popular overseas for a while now. It took a while for me to get used to as it's definitely something different for me, but it's great if you're wanting to mix things up a bit. There are a number of ways to achieve it and I feel it's one of those beauty looks you have to play around with, but read below to see what works best for me.

ONE: Make sure your lips are exfoliated and well hydrated to provide a smooth base. I used the Karen Lovshe Revive Lip Balm* (available to buy here) which I discussed in more detail in the post mentioned above.

TWO:The first task is to mute out the lips. I never thought I'd be one for recommending the dreaded 'foundation lips' look, but here we are - life is full of surprises ;). I dabbed the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer, as it's lightweight and blends easily, onto a makeup sponge and pressed onto lips.

THREE: Next, using a lip brush apply your chosen lip shade to the inner part of your bottom lip. Then press lips together so it transfers to the upper lip.

FOUR: As you can see, I used the VOV Tinted Fit Lip Color Stick in #4 Island Orange* which I said I'd use for this look as it has a sponge end aimed to create this trend. Therefore, I then used this to blend the inner colour out towards the edges to create a gradient effect. If you don't have this product with the sponge, you can try getting more of a tint effect using your lip brush (with less product on it) or by using the makeup sponge used in step one.

FIVE: An optional final step (I decided not to), is to apply a clear gloss to add a bit of shine and help to further blend the gradient look.

What do you think of this Korean gradient lips trend?
Don't forget you can purchase the VOV Tinted Fit Lip Color Stick from BonjourHK here, there's a variety of shades available + FREE shipping!

  2. This is the randomest beauty trend ever. So odd that in Korea they are making their lips looks smaller and everyone here is obsessed with the dreaded Kylie Jenner trout pout! Oh what an interesting world we live in!

  3. I find it so interesting how other parts of the world have completely different beauty trends to the West! I hope it's not because I've been brainwashed by Kylie Jenner (LOL) but I probably wouldn't try this on myself. I do like ombre lips going lighter into the centre, but I just think this one makes lips look smaller?

  9. I love gradient lips but I use two different shades of lipsticks to create it. I'm not sure how I feel about concealer on my lips but it does makes me feel icky? Yes, I'm in my 30s and still use the word icky. LMAO! I do love the finish result, Karen, it's seriously pretty.

  18. I love doing this on myself, especially for everyday when I don't want perfectly outlined lips. I normally powder my lips, then dab my lipstick on using my finger for a light wash of color.

  27. I quite like the trend and I'd probably try it out myself in the summer, perhaps using different lip liners to ease the transition between the shades :)

  28. Using foundation first is an interesting idea it means that you end up with a consistent coulour. The shade looks pretty on Lucy x
