- Sunday Summary: Flowers, Fitness & Cocktails...

Happy Sunday! For today's post I wanted to do a lifestyle/catch-up type post. This 'Sunday Summary' won't be a new weekly series, mainly because I post every other day so don't post every Sunday, but also because it depends if I've been up to much worth sharing. Plus, I like to be mysterious like that.

So here's what I've been up to lately...

WELL DRESSINGS:

These annual well dressings are around for just a few days each time, but are definitely worth visiting if you get a chance. They're made from petals individually placed in clay and, as you can see, it's a skillful art. There's huge history behind this practice; it originated to give thanks for untainted well water during the Great Plague. I love stuff like this, not only are they lovely to look at, but they're meaningful and have an interesting story behind them.

BLUEBELLS:

Spring has certainly sprung, bringing with it the stunning bluebells. Both me and Rob are lucky enough to live near woods and see the carpets of blue. Literally, they're never-ending; sights like this make me wish I was good at painting, but when it comes to Art, my talent level is probably in the negatives. For now though, I'll continue to enjoy going for walks and runs surrounded by these beautiful blue flowers.

FITNESS:

Speaking of running, I've managed to stick to going 3-4 times a week and have definitely progressed. You may have read in my latest fitness update post that I've been using an app based on the C25K program, and I honestly can't recommend it enough. Hopefully it won't be too long before I can comfortably run 10k at a decent speed. Sorry for the bad quality photos by the way, they were on-the-go from my iPod Touch, which is what I use the app on.

FOOD:

I enjoy salad year-round , but particularly during Spring/Summer. I'm definitely that person who'd rather have a salad than visit a fast food restaurant #sorrynotsorry. I remember posting an Instagram of this Greek salad last Summer and, despite it's blurriness/haziness/darkness, it proved to be quite a hit. Simply mix cucumber, olives, cherry tomatoes, feta, lemon juice, parsley, olive oil and pepper - et voila! I've been having mine with mixed leaves and sourdough. ALL the noms.

COCKTAILS:

May 13th marked World Cocktail Day, so if that's not an excuse to head straight towards your drinks cabinet, I don't know what is! Travel specialists Hayes and Jarvis have been researching the UK's top cocktails, check out the results here. I'd be really interested to hear what your no.1 choice would be, so please comment below.

I'm a huge fan of cocktails and feel they're worth spending a bit more on than your usual pint. I'm all for experimenting with different concoctions, but always end up coming back to espresso martinis. It's not surprising really as I'm a coffee addict, plus they're rich, the perfect balance of sweet vs. bitter, and seem to be the sophisticated choice. Therefore, when asked what my favourite cocktail is, I immediately knew this had to be my top choice. I was very kindly sent a cocktail set*, along with the ingredients* for my chosen cocktail, from the lovely ladies at SensePR. This tasted yummy and was the perfect weekend treat - despite totally failing at making the froth, I'll leave that to the experts ;)

I hope you enjoyed this Sunday summary post! Flowers, fitness and cocktails - I suppose life could be worse ;)

What do you think of these images? Let me know if you'd like to see more of these summary posts, and don't forget to let me know what your favourite cocktail is!

*Products marked with an asterix (*) have been gifted. I only feature products/services to my personal taste and all opinions are 100% my own.

  20. I can't believe what it's possible to make with petals! The bluebells look magical. I used to live near a wood like that and they're incredible this time of year. If fairies exist then they definitely live in a bluebell wood! I love a good cocktail, they make me feel glamorous! I like a Bellini or a mojito but my favourite is probably a good old gin and tonic, I don't think it can be beaten! x

  21. I love this sort of posts, Karen. It's nice to be invited to have a small peek into your life and gosh, the sea of bluebells are gorgeous. It would make the perfect location for fashion posts. And wow, I can't believe those are made with flower petals, that is crazy creative!

And whattt? Salad over fast food?! You and me need to sit down and have a talk, I mean come on, how can you give up artery clogging goodness? LOL! ;-)

    Have a great week, Karen!
