- October Degustabox Review...

My previous post on the September Degustabox* (here) seemed to go down a treat with you all and just proved how much us bloggers love a subscription box - especially when food is involved! Today's post will show you what was inside the October Degustabox*. Incase you didn't know already, these are monthly boxes costing just £12.99 (inc. delivery), and are full of food & drink surprises!

I also have a code giving you a £3.00 discount when you register: 'RZWQI'

Brioche Pasquier Pain au lait with choc chips RRP: £1.60
Brioche Pasquier Sliced Loaf RRP: £1.69

Oh boy, I haven't had brioche in ages, in fact, I had completely forgotten it existed. I've been warming these up in the microwave for ~20 seconds for breakfast and they've been a great way to start a cold morning! As for the loaf, it's a sweeter alternative to your typical loaf and tastes great toasted with jam or marmalade.

Bear Alphabites (sample)
Bear Paws RRP: £0.55

First up, the Bear Alphabites contain no refined sugar, using coconut blossom nectar as an alternative. The Paws also contain no added sugar and are baked fruits (strawberry, apple & pear) shaped into different dinosaur paws! I'm really impressed with 'Bear' as I think they're a fun brand for kids, and big kids like myself - I may or may not have been chortling like an idiot for a good few minutes upon noticing the bottom of the box...

L-R Get Buzzing Original Nutty Flapjack RRP: £1.30
Jelly Belly RRP: £2.50
Special K Cracker Crisps RRP: £1.89

Flapjack is up there in my top go-to snacks as it's high in protein and quickly provides a slow release of energy. This Get Buzzing bar contains dried fruit as well as nuts and although it was super tasty, £1.30 seems a little dear, or is that just me?

Next are the jelly beans from Jelly Belly, which are hugely popular due to their 100+ flavours. I'm not really a jelly bean person as I much prefer chocolate to sweets. That being said, this bag did contain an interesting chocolate flavour - other funky flavours include buttered popcorn, bubblegum, pina colada and toasted marshmallow, to name just a few!

I was pleased to see some Barbecue cracker crisps amongst the selection as that's my favourite flavour! These also come in Sea Salt & Balsamic Vinegar, Sour Cream & Onion and Sweet Chilli, and are a perfect low-fat savoury snack, containing just the right amount of flavouring. However, I'll be honest and say I'm not too sure how I feel about Special K. Their products are low-fat yet they seem to bump the sugar up? It's important to read food labels if you're wary, but it's safe to say I happily demolished these.

Blue Dragon Sweet Chilli Sauce RRP: £1.39 x2

Possibly the food product I was most excited to see in this month's box as I absolutely love this sweet chilli sauce! I use it on a regular basis to spruce up chicken salads - it also works really well with tuna! I really ought to research more recipes to include it in, if you have any recommendations do let me know!

Kent's Kitchen Meal Kit RRP: £2.50

When I picked this out from the selection, I was so intrigued! This kit contains infused garlic oil, curry spices & Bengal curry paste - there are also several other flavours available such as Jalfrezi, Tikka Masala, Thai Green and Firecracker Sweet & Sour! These three clever pots are the perfect key ingredients to the curry photographed above. For those of you who are interested, to serve ~4, I used:

600g diced chicken breast
1 chopped onion
1 red pepper sliced
Pineapple chunks
A can of chickpeas
A can of coconut milk
1 chicken stock cube
1 bay leaf

This produced a mild yet flavoursome curry - which I was really pleased about as I'm a wuss when it comes to spice!

Solo Marshmallow Creme RRP: £1.99
Dr. Oetker Premium 90% Extra Dark Chocolate RRP: £2.49
Dr. Oetker Fine Dark Cocoa Powder RRP: £1.89

This may shock some of you, but I've never had marshmallow creme before. There's a recipe on the pot for fudge which I may try out, or I might research something else to use it in. It also suggests having it on it's own and a few friends of mine say they spread it in between biscuits (think biscuit sandwich), but I just can't bring myself to do it #sugarhigh.

The Dr. Oetker goodies are a great addition to this month's box as I've been meaning to start baking and this is the perfect push in the right direction. Dark Chocolate and Cocoa powder are key ingredients in many treats and I've heard that this brand are the real deal!

Enhance Drinks RRP: £2.49

I've seen products like this around quite a lot at the moment and think they're great in many situations, such as festivals and camping. This little gem can apparently make up to 32 drinks, each containing just 1 calorie and no added sugar! Real fruit juice is used and I'm really enjoying this refreshing Orange & Passion Fruit flavour. Others include Apple & Blackcurrant, Lemon & Lime and Strawberry & Kiwi.

Benecol Greek Style Yogurts

Unlike the September box, this month's contains a Degustabox Fridge item where you take the voucher to the shop and claim the product! This is such a great idea and these Strawberry & Vanilla greek yogurts sound just my thing. I did attempt to collect them in order to have them photographed in this post, but unfortunately my local supermarket didn't have them in so I'll have to wait until I'm near a larger store!

Overall, I'm once again really pleased with Degustabox! My top picks would have to be the Brioche, Sweet Chilli Sauce and the Kent's Kitchen Meal Kit. I do think this box is more suited to those with a majorly sweet tooth, especially with the marshmallow creme and jelly beans, but I will happily use all of the products. Another point is that previous boxes have contained more drink items which I enjoy trying out as much as the food, and whilst this box had the Enhance item, an extra drink item would have been welcomed. Nevertheless, it's great to see the return of the Fridge item and overall, I'm a very happy bunny!
