- Milkmaid Braid Tutorial for Long, Thick Hair...

I'm sure most of you have seen the current hairstyle trend known as the 'Milkmaid Braid'. After seeing a hairstyle I like, I immediately rush off to recreate it and this was no different. However, when attempting this style I found my plaits were far too big to pin up on top of my head and I'm guessing if you also have long, thick hair, you would have encountered the same problem. I knew that Fishtail Braids resulted in thinner plaits so I decided to modify the original style a bit. Read below to find out how I achieved this look.

1. Brush through hair and divide in half, sectioning off one side...

2. Backcomb roots for a bit of extra volume; I used a Tangle Teezer...

3. Plait one section into a Fishtail Braid, leaving layers around your face free...

4. Plait as far down your hair as possible; don't worry about layers sticking out as it doesn't have to be perfect. Secure with a thin hair tie...

5. Repeat for the other section of hair...

6. Pull each plait upwards and across your head. Use grips to secure, I also used a bit of Aveda Control Force Firm Hold hair spray, and you're done!

For me, this is a much more manageable and practical style compared to the original Milkbraid! I also think it gives a lovely, fresh twist and would be fab for festival season! Are you a fan of this style? Will you be giving it a go?

  3. This really suits you! I used to attempt this on my hair when it was longer but it just looked odd on me, partly because I have rather fine hair.
