- High-End Mascaras: Are they worth it?...

Last week I struck lucky by managing to gain two of the top selling high-end mascaras for a mere £10. As most of you know, to celebrate the 10th birthday of Lancôme's Hypnôse mascara it retailed at £10 for one day only at Debenhams. I also managed to gain Benefit's They're Real mascara as The Sunday Times conducted a survey partnered with Feel Unique whereby the first 3,000 voters won a free mascara. Therefore, I thought i'd take this opportunity to discuss whether it really is worth paying more for a mascara. It's also worth mentioning that I tested both of these products without using eyelash curlers beforehand.

As you can see in the image above, the results are very similar. I will discuss my thoughts on each product below...

Lancôme Hypnôse (£22.50)
This mascara definitely scores high points for lengthening lashes. It also claims to build up volume x6, i'm unsure about 6 times but it definitely improved the volume of lashes an impressive amount. In my opinion, the brush is the ideal width which grabbed every lash and avoided clumping completely!

Benefit They're Real (£19.50)
A slightly thicker brush than the Lancôme's but still very effective! A few clumps were present during application but they were nothing a repeated brush through couldn't sort out. An impressive amount of length and volume was given, however, I did find that this mascara was more stubborn to clean off in comparison to the Lancôme one.

Overall, the result of these mascaras is very similar! The Lancôme Hypnôse just scrapes to #1 for me as I prefer the slightly thinner brush, but this really is personal preference. Both of these products provide excellent lengthening and volume to lashes, and are ideal to use on lower lashes without causing smudges. The Lancôme Hypnôse results in perhaps a little more volume, but I noticed the Benefit They're Real created more of a curled effect. Therefore, it really does depend on what you're after and both are strong releases! If you're strapped for cash then stick to high-street as there really are some good releases such as Maybelline's The Falsies and Rimmel's Lash Accelerator, but if you're willing to pay that bit extra then either of these high-end mascaras are definitely worth it! I can see why these are top sellers!

Have you tried either of these? Which is your go to mascara?

  3. I ran out of Benefit 'they're real' but I kept the wand and used it on a collection mascara that was retaining for £3 I've got to say. Its normally the wand that you have to look at for the mascara, not the formula. I put the wand in another mascara and get the same results. If you have the benefit one then run out, keep the wand and just use it with another mascara.

    1. Great idea! I find that some formulas tend to 'flake' a bit but yes, it is mainly the wand that makes the difference :D x

  5. I find Benefit They're Real it's a real pain to take off. I prefer Lancome over it. Helena Rubinstein has great mascaras, but they are difficult to get hold of in the UK. x

  16. I've tried both, and I love Hypnose the most. I find that high end mascaras provide an outstanding result and don't fall into pieces during the day. They are also more gentle on your lashes :-)
