- Birkenstocks & Pool Sliders: Yay or Nay?...

Admittedly there are some trends that take a while for me to warm towards; animal print for example. I'm still not the hugest fan however I can accept small splashes of leopard print here and there. But then there's the Birkenstock and similar Slides...

Considered fashionable years ago, these creations are back in and are selling like hotcakes. They're practical yes but I can name many shoes that are comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. As shown above, (left:high end, right: high street) they were extremely popular on S/S'14 catwalk shows and there are a huge array currently available on the high street. Many celebrities are also jumping on said bandwagon such as The Olsen twins and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who has been seen sporting the Givenchy floral edition.

Even when teamed with a stylish outfit, I still can't help but zoom in towards the clumpy footwear and my dislike just increases. It's not even the clumpiness really as I love flatforms and I suppose they could be described in such a way. I can't put my finger on it, they just don't tickle my pickle. I understand how the whole 'items deemed as ugly' thing can catch on and in turn become a trend but this is just a no go for me. There are still countless other shoes i'd rather be seen in.

Please remember that this is just my personal opinion. I obviously don't mean to cause any offense and I respect everyone's individual opinion.

What are your thoughts on this trend? I would love to hear your views!

  1. I kind of agree about the pool sliders, it seems that only the models can pull them off! They look a bit too sloppy for my liking.

  3. I can't get behind the standard Birkenstock model even when they use fancy prints. But I could see simple but more polished slides like the H&M ones working with certain outfits.

I don't think the Adidas version would ever be for me tho.

  4. Big nay. I just can't see it! It's like crocs but almost worse cos at least with crocs there was never any illusion about them being stylish xx

  6. I've been wearing Birkenstocks (and similar knock off ones) for years, so I love them but I'd never kid myself they were stylish!

  7. I don't really like this type of sandal but I have to say that those Givenchy ones look really pretty.

  9. I agree! I don't really like this trend too. It reminds me of my fathers sandals. But I will admit that these sandals are very comfy to wear for hours instead of heels. But then again, in the name of fashion, why not?

  10. I'm definitely not going to wear Birkenstocks this season. They remind me too much of my dad because he wears them alllll the time. :D

  11. I started a post thinking no way would I even consider them, but after publishing I think I do love them but they would never suit me, who knows.

Take a look at my post on them over at:

  12. I always feel like on other people they look great and fashion forward. But when I tried them on (multiple times and different styles) it just didn't work. Plus I just couldn't see myself styling or adding them to my wardrobe. I guess its just one of those fashion trends that not every one can pull off, including me! lol

  13. I'm not a fan of this trend haha! There are so many other cute sandals out there that I don't see why anyone under the age of 40 would go for these. But that's just my personal opinion! There are plenty of trends I don't sit on board with and it doesn't bother me haha :)
